Linda Thurby-Hay, DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC, ADM, CDE (VA)

Please introduce yourself and briefly explain your work as a CNS.

During my professional journey as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, focused on the care of those living with diabetes and endocrine disorders, I have seen both the opportunities and challenges that the CNS community faces in providing care and system redesign in optimizing health outcomes. Currently, I’m engaged in an initiative to reposition the CNS in an extensive health system in Richmond, VA, from one of being valued purely as an educator to one that is valued as a clinician and change agent in transforming population health. This has involved gaining recognition of the role through credentialing and privileging in facility bylaws, establishing an inpatient consult service that bills for services, and recognizing CNSs as providers along with the other APCs.

What do you plan to bring to NACNS as Secretary/Treasurer of the board?

My goal in this role would be to strategize with the leadership team and Board on how to bring more of the CNS community into the NACNS fold. Membership should bring value to the practicing CNS, and tapping into the innovation within every CNS is key.
