From March 10-13, 2024, join hundreds of colleagues at the only national conference dedicated to the clinical nurse specialist.

The NACNS 2024 Annual Conference takes place at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana! Join us for a multitude of opportunities to engage with CNSs and other nursing leaders from around the nation. Our agenda will provide an extensive variety of high-quality, CNS-specific sessions, complex pharmacology sessions, and hands-on clinical skills-building workshops rich in Continuing Education Credits.

This year’s theme for the NACNS Annual Conference is Lead The Next Generation!

Supporting our CNS students, PD, faculty & preceptors
Assisting all CNSs in securing HCS privileges
Making the public aware of the CNS role
Directing and prescribing complex patient care across the continuum

Being politically active to advance the CNS role

Oriana Beaudet, DNP, RN, PHN
The ANA Enterprise

Oriana Beaudet is the Vice President Innovation for the American Nurses Association Enterprise. The ANA Enterprise includes the American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, and the American Nurses Foundation.  Prior to ANA, Dr. Beaudet ran her own business as a strategic partner for organizations, healthcare executives, and startups.

Her last position as the Vice President of Transformation for a national healthcare design firm she focused on strategy and business development for national health systems around operational and business innovations; simulation modeling and technology; design of the built space, and care delivery design.  She currently sits on the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy – Expert Advisory Council for Transformation and the Governing Directors Board for the Alliance for Nursing Informatics. Dr. Beaudet completed her doctorate in nursing practice in Health Innovation Leadership with an emphasis in Design from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.

Alice Benjamin, APRN, ACNS-BC, FNP-C, CCRN, CEN, CV-BC
Breaking News Beyond the Bedside as a CNS

Alice Benjamin, APRN, ACNS-BC, FNP-C, CCRN, CEN, CV-BC, also known as America’s Favorite Nurse, is a multifaceted healthcare professional. As a board-certified Clinical Nurse Specialist and Family Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years in nursing, her expertise spans cardiovascular health, critical care, and emergency medicine. Her dedication to patient care extends beyond clinical settings into the realms of media and advocacy. Alice’s role as a medical correspondent for NBC Los Angeles, particularly during the Covid crisis, solidified her as the nation’s most-watched nurse on television.

Her media presence is not new; for over ten years, Alice has been a pioneering force for nurses in media, working both in front of and behind the camera. She has collaborated with numerous production companies to protect and advance the public image of nursing. Alice has also held significant leadership roles, including Patient Safety Manager at a major medical center, national spokesperson for the American Heart Association, and Chief Nursing Officer for a prominent online nursing platform.

Alice is a beloved advocate for patient education and healthcare representation in the media. She has appeared on national television shows and networks such as GMA3, Dr. Oz, The Doctors, CNN, HLN, FOX News, and BBC, to name a few. As the host of the Ask Nurse Alice Podcast, she delivers uncompromising advice and engaging interviews, earning a place in the top 10 of Apple’s medical podcasts. Her tireless work has made her a voice of change and a passionate representative for both patients and nurses.

Lynn Gallagher-Ford, PhD, RN, EBP-C, DPFNAP, FAAN
Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare

Lynn Gallagher-Ford, PhD, RN, EBP-C, DPFNAP, FAAN, is chief operating officer and clinical core director of the Fuld Institute for EBP, where her work is dedicated to research, education and consultation focused on the development, promotion, integration, implementation, and sustainability of evidence-based practice in both academic and clinical settings.

Gallagher-Ford’s clinical background in maternal-child health and nursing administration spans 30 years. She served in a variety of roles ranging from bedside clinician to chief nursing officer, in which she gained extensive experience and expertise in teaching and implementing evidence-based practice in real-world clinical settings. Gallagher-Ford is currently active as a consultant, facilitator and keynote presenter at national and international conferences and education programs.

Gallagher-Ford co-edited the book Implementing the EBP Competencies in Healthcare: A Practical Guide for Improving Quality, Safety & Outcomes. Her publications include co-authorship of multiple studies that have had a dramatic impact on the current body of knowledge about evidence-based practice and influenced strategic imperatives to address new challenges. She also contributed as a lead author in the American Journal of Nursing EBP Series, which received the Sigma Theta Tau Publication Award for 2011.

She serves as assistant editor of Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing and is the editor of the column “Implementing and Sustaining EBP in Real-World Healthcare Settings,” which features best evidence-based strategies and innovative ideas on how to promote and sustain evidence-based practices and cultures in clinical organizations.

Gallagher-Ford’s research is focused on the science behind evidence-based practice, with particular focus on the influence of nurse leaders and contextual issues. She was inducted into the National Academies of Practice and the Nursing Academy as a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow in 2013 and the American Academy of Nursing as a fellow in 2017.

Pain Management Task Force

The Pain Management Task Force will be sharing the revised NACNS Position Statements on the Role of the CNS in Pain Management Position Statement and Role of CNS in Managing Pain in Patients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The TF is seeking feedback on these important documents.

CNS Legislation & Regulation Panel (Wins, Opportunities, & Barriers) – Town Hall

Tuesday, March 12 | 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM CT

This session will include an update of items, efforts and activities that the NACNS Legislative and Regulatory Committee is engaged in on behalf of our members. Pamela Moss will share recent legislative efforts to provide better clarity in the CNS role, title and scope of practice in her State. We will be asking attendees to bring their questions and comments as we will dedicate a significant portion of this session to identifying Legislative and Regulatory opportunities that our members need help with or would like NACNS to focus on this upcoming year.

Creating & Managing a Successful NACNS Affiliate

Facilitated and presented by members of the NACNS Affiliate Advisory Committee. This will be an interactive session that will provide an opportunity to network and collaborate with other Affiliate members and like-minded individuals interested in creating an Affiliate of NACNS. Attendees will identify available resources and possible actions for creating and managing a successful NACNS Affiliate.

Growing CNS Student Enrollment (Strategies and Ideas) – Town Hall Panel

Recruiting more nurses to become CNSs is a top strategic priority for NACNS. Discover what we are doing from the national level down to the local level. Our panel of experts includes the NACNS president, CNS program directors/faculty, and recent CNS students. We will share our strategies to include a social media push and get your ideas too. Engage in a collective brainstorming session and depart with innovative ideas to bolster our CNS workforce (or community or organization or voice).

Grow Your Own Task Force Updates, Discussion & Consultation

Wednesday, March 13 | 10:05 AM – 11:10 AM CT

This session will review the process and tools needed to develop your own “Grow your own” program for CNS development.  A panel discussion will include experienced program managers, academic faculty and CNSs who have benefited from a Grow Your Own program.  The participants will provide information, insights and instructions for the best method to develop a program. Challenges and facilitators will be discussed as well.  The Grow Your Own taskforce will unveil the new “Grow Your Own” Toolkit with documents and resources to enable you to effectively develop and implement your own program.
