How to Bill as a Clinical Nurse Specialist

Tuesday, March 9th
8:00 -11:00 a.m. ET
REGISTER HERE

It is important to know how to bill accurately for reimbursable care as billing for physician services can be very complex. This interactive session will guide you through the billing process, including the basics of applying for an NPI, how, where, why you need it, the proper use of CPT codes and properly documenting a patient’s visit. CPT codes and modifiers vary based on the location of service as well as the non-physician practitioner’s role with respect to the patient and their states advanced practice regulations. Properly documenting a patient’s visit using the required documentation components and knowing when and how to document using time continues to be a challenge for advanced practitioners. This in depth session will help ensure you know the basics of coding and billing.

This workshop will be recorded and can be accessed on-demand for paid registrants. If you cannot attend live, please register to receive access recording.

Closing Keynote:

The Ethical Practice of Steadying Oneself in the Winter Storm by Katherine Brown-Saltzman, MA, RN

Have you noticed that the storms in health care are unrelenting? That if it is not one thing it is another? Have you noticed the deep fatigue that resides in you, with each surge of chaos and demands? Are you sometimes worried that you will no longer practice with joy, commitment, and compassion? Let’s unpack the ethical obligation of self-care, honoring the dark winters and the possibility of spring using the transformative power of the narrative.

Katherine Brown-Saltzman is the former co-director of the UCLA Health Ethics Center. Katherine’s work in ethics is a natural extension of her clinical practice which began in pediatric oncology and then focused on end-of-life care. In 2004, being a member of two ethics committees and co-chairing the UCLA Medical Center’s Ethics Committee, she co-founded the UCLA Health Ethics Center which led to helping develop a robust clinical ethics consultation service and a clinical ethics fellowship. She has been a co-investigator in ethics grants from AACN, ONS, Sigma Theta, was part of an NIH grant developing end-of-life education for medical students, as well as a PCORI grant on advocacy. Her most recent area of research is centered on clinical ethics. She has been active in developing interdisciplinary programs on sustaining self-care, moral distress, and ethics education, including jointly developing a clinical ethics fellowship at UCLA. She co-founded and has been president of Ethics of Caring, a non-profit that has provided annual ethics conferences for Southern California since 1993. The first National Nursing Ethics Conference in 2011 was modeled on Ethics of Caring and Katherine has been the co-chair of the planning committee throughout its tenure. She lectures nationally and internationally, has developed ethics and end of life care policies, and has published on such diverse topics as, ethics, professional self-care, end-of-life care, bereavement, spirituality, psychosocial care, guided imagery and cultural issues. In semi-retirement, a state of preferment, she is a lecturer at UCLA School of Nursing, writing about ethics, discovering her new home in Oregon, enjoying grandchildren, gardening and writing poetry.
