Description: Assessing pain in the patient in an unbiased way, is, at times, a challenge for any clinician. Dr. Irabor will discuss practical, evidence based recommendations for pain assessment in the adult who can communicate verbally. Consideration of contrasts between pain level report and functional level in assessment will be a highlight of this helpful presentation. In order to complete requirements for this presentation, the learner must be present throughout the entire presentation and complete the roster and evaluation.

Dr. Ramona Irabor is an Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Duke Health, specializing in acute and chronic inpatient pain management. She leads system-wide initiatives that advance pain management practices, opioid stewardship, and quality and safety outcomes. A recognized national leader, Dr. Irabor currently serves as Chair of the ASPMN Education Committee and is an active contributor to CNS scholarship and practice advancement. She is also a clinical instructor at the Duke University School of Nursing and has held adjunct clinical faculty appointments at two other area universities. Dr. Irabor’s commitment to clinical excellence and professional development makes her a valued member of the NACNS community.
