The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton, Dr.PH, RN, FAAN. All her life, she dedicated herself to advocacy in nursing and developing a strong, supportive community for those in need.
While pursuing her Master’s degree at UCLA, she joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 1971. Before rising to the roles of Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive, she served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Dr. Burnes Bolton was a leader of national impact, contributing to organizations such as the Institute of Medicine, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), the AARP Foundation, the “Future of Nursing” Campaign for Action, the American Organization of Nurse Leaders, the American Academy of Nursing, and many others.
As a true CNS, she led by example, elevating the quality of care through creating supportive environments and fostering leaders who aspired to build stronger, more equitable health systems. NACNS is grateful to Dr. Burnes Bolton for her dedication to nursing and leadership.
