Indianapolis Nurse Receives National Nursing Association’s “President’s Award”

Orlando, FL – The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) today presented its prestigious President’s Award to Brenda Lyon, PhD, RN, FAAN, Executive Vice President, Administration and Pre-Market Medical Device Evaluation at Aircom Manufacturing. Inc. and Medivative Technologies, and President of Health Potentials Unlimited, LLC., a private practice in stress-related physical illness. The Award recognizes an individual for extraordinary service to NACNS. It was established in 2013 to honor individuals or groups that make significant contributions toward the accomplishment of the NACNS mission. The Award was presented at NACNS’ Annual Conference.

Lyon was one of the founders of NACNS and she has since dedicated herself to the association’s growth and development. She is Past President of NACNS and of the Indiana State Nurses Association. Lyon is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and of the American Academies of Practice-Nursing, and a member of American Nurses Association, Indiana State Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International.

“Brenda Lyon is one of the group of passionate CNS trailblazers who came together to establish NACNS,” said NACNS 2013 President Carol Manchester, MSN, ACNS, BC-ADM, CDE. “We owe our existence to these founding members, and Brenda dedicated her expertise and leadership to the growth and development of NACNS. Brenda has an exciting and ever-growing professional life. She spent many years in academia, at the Indiana University School of Nursing. She influenced many of us in her role which she held from 1971 until 2010. She retired from the position of Professor in the Department of Adult Health. She also held a clinical appointment as adjunct clinical nurse specialist in adult health and stress at the Community Hospitals of Indiana. She is a nationally recognized expert in stress. For those of us who know Brenda, we are continually impressed by her creative thinking, her leadership and her business skills.”
