Sue B. Davidson Service Award Recipient Announced

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) today announced the Sue B. Davidson Service Award recipient. This award was one of six awards presented at the March 7 – 9, 2013 Annual Conference, held at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio , San Antonio, TX. 

Patricia O’Malley Ph.D., RN, CCRN, CNS, Nurse Researcher at the Center of Nursing Excellence and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care Services at the Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio was awarded the Sue B. Davidson Service Award. This award recognizes an individual for extraordinary service to NACNS. It was established in honor of Dr. Sue Davidson, a founding member who served two terms as President and, for many years, chaired the NACNS Research Committee. This award is given by the NACNS Board of Directors.

Dr. O’Malley is an exemplary model for volunteer service and contributions to the CNS community. Dr. O’Malley has served as a column editor for Clinical Nurse Specialist – The Journal for Advanced Nursing Practice since 2002. Her insightful articles in this column have captured the attention of members and the media. She recently wrote a column that identified the potential dangers of caffeinated energy drinks.

“A spirit of volunteerism to NACNS is the hallmark of this award. Dr. O’Malley’s ongoing efforts and contributions to NACNS have helped to define the organization and the clinical nurse specialist role. Her column has become a highlight of the Journal and a reflection of Dr. O’Malley’s scholarship” said NACNS 2013 President, Carol Manchester, MSN, ACNS, BC-ADM, CDE.
