Philadelphia, PA—The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists today announced its newly elected members of its 2013 Board of Directors. The following individuals have demonstrated leadership in nursing education, practice, research and administration and have been elected by their peers to serve in this important role.
Carol Manchester, MSN, ACNS, BC-ADM, CDE, is currently employed as the Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. She will assume the 2013-2014 president role. Ms. Manchester has extensive association experience and has served on the NACNS Board of Directors since 2007. Ms. Manchester is an active member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and has worked on a variety of work groups with this organization.
“Carol is an outstanding, thoughtful leader that will continue to build the association,” stated NACNS 2012-2013 President, Rachel Moody, MS, CNS, RN. “I am confident that NACNS will thrive under her leadership in 2013.”
Les Rodriquez MSN, MPH, RN, ANCNS-BC, APRN, has been elected to the role of president- elect. Les Rodriquez will assume the NACNS presidential role in 2014 at the NACNS Annual Conference he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2010. Mr. Rodriquez is employed as a CNS in the Division of Surgical & Oncology Services at Baylor University Medical Center. Mr. Rodriquez provides pain management support to the inpatient patients. Mr. Rodriquez is a member of the American Pain Society, American Society of Pain Management Nurses, American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses and the American Public Health Association. “Les is a creative and enthusiastic leader. I look forward to the many contributions he will make to the association,” stated Rachel Moody.
Peggy Barksdale, MSN, RN, OCNS-C, CNS-BC, has been elected as the 2013-2015 vice president. Peggy has been on the NACNS Board of Directors since 2010. She serves as a CNS at the Community Health Network, Indianapolis, Indiana. She is the team leader for clinical standards, education and research and is actively involved in the analysis and implementation of evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes. Ms. Barksdale clinical expertise is musculoskeletal/orthopaedic conditions. “Peggy will continue to bring her insightful leadership to the NACNS Board. Her extensive experience on the Board of Directors allows her to be prepared to step up into the President’s role if needed,” stated Rachel Moody.
Anne Muller, MSN, ACNS-BC, RN, was elected to serve the 2013 term as treasurer. Last year she was appointed to complete Ms. Manchester’s term as Treasurer. Ms. Muller is currently employed as the Director of Critical-Care, Acute Care Division for Universal Health Services, Inc. In this position Ms. Muller works with both intensive and progressive care units throughout all 25 acute care hospitals. Among her responsibilities, she evaluates the standards of care in place in critical care, communication tools, safe transition of care, professional nurse autonomy and competency and professional practice strategies. Ms. Muller has been on the NACNS Board of Directors since 2010. She is serving as co-chair of NACNS’ Psych/mental Health Taskforce and the CNS Cost and Outcomes Taskforce.
Ginger S. Pierson, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNS has been elected to a second term on the NACNS Board of Directors. Ms. Pierson has been employed at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Newport Beach, California since 1990 and is currently the CNS for the very active, 56 bed Emergency Department. She is actively engaged with ED and hospital staff in continuously improving care for all patients. As a CNS, Ms. Pierson works closely with interdisciplinary teams to impact outcomes for Stroke, Acute MI, Sepsis, and Pneumonia patients through latest evidence-based practices. Ms. Pierson began her first elected term to the NACNS Board of Directors in 2011. She has served as Board Liaison to the NACNS Membership Committee; has served on the NACNS Strategic Planning Committee and is currently the co-chair of the NACNS Cost and Outcomes Taskforce.
Fiona Winterbottom, MSN, CCRN, ACNS-BC, has been elected to her first term to the NACNS Board of Directors. She is currently employed as a Critical Care CNS for Ochsner Medical Center, New Orleans since September, 2007. She is also a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
“Ms. Winterbottom is a talented CNS and will bring strong leadership skills to the NACNS Board,” states Ms. Moody. “The NACNS members have elected a very strong team of volunteers to serve on the NACNS Board of Directors.”
The NACNS membership also elected members for the NACNS Nominating Committee. The following new individuals will be serving on the 2013 – 2014 Nominating Committee:
